Ich bin noch nicht ganz durch mit dem Buch, aber es ist besser, als ich es mir vorgstellt habe.Gekauft habe ich es mir, weil ich die originale Story lesen wollte. In den Verfilmungen fehlt ja doch immer mal wieder irgendein Detail. Was ich bis jetzt sagen kann: In der Verfilmung von 2011 fehlt so einiges. Es ist ein eigenständiges Werk, basierend auf dem Buch.Die Musketiere sind chronisch pleite und / oder betrunken, d'Artagnan ist ein ungestümer Hitzkopf. Weswegen hier Duelle ausgefochten werden, ist schon der Wahnsinn. Absolute Kaufempfehlung!
Considering how many books I read per month, I am staggered that it took me 32 years to finally get around to reading the Three Musketeers. This is an excellent book and one of the best pieces of literature that I have ever got my hands on. I was totally gripped from start to finish.D'Artagnan goes to Paris to seek his fortune and hopefully to join the coveted King's Musketeers. No sooner is he in the capital than he is fighting a duel with the Musketeers and this brings him to their notice. Since there are no vacancies in the elite group, D'Artagnan is put in the Kings Guards and promised a place in the Musketeers when a vacancy arises. Despite this though, D'Artagnan and the three Musketeers, Porthos, Aramis and Athos, are soon inseparable and are soon getting into fights and adventures, especially with the dangerous Cardinal Richeleau and the deadly but mysterious Milady. But with people like the Duke of Buckingham, Lord De Winter and Monsieur De Trevielle, the group soon triumph and get the girl...A wonderfully written, absorbing story and I can't wait for part 2 in the Musketeers trilogy.
Das Buch selber ist super, ein Klassiker eben. Jedoch ist die Qualität und Verfassung des Buches bei der Lieferung mieserabel gewesen. Kratzer auf dem Buchrücken, Farb/Tinten Flecken auf der Seite und abgeknickte Ecken... Bin echt sehr enttäuscht von Amazon!

This is a work of fiction, and a magnificent one.So, with that in mind, what can one say about The Three Musketeers? Athos, Porthos, Aramis, D'Artangnan, the great friends, the great heros, the part-time cads, the drinkers, womanizers, war heros, saviours of the Queen's honour, foils to M. le Cardinal -- these are the ultimate Larger Than Life characters. They foil dastardly plots, they involve themselves in high politics and affairs of state, the duel constantly, and still find time to learn lessons of friendship, honour, and betrayal.This is not a children's book, no more than 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea is a children's book. It was written for adults and there are many scenes children will not understand and will become bored with. Do not let that stop YOU from reading it. Teach you children parts of the tale and then work them towards it. Do yourself a favour and find out just how rich and complex this tale is. You will enjoy it.
This was one of my favorite books, growing up. Dumas created a fast-paced, intriguing story of passion, friendship, treason, and politics. Who could forget the irresistible force of the four friends: the clever hothead D'Artagnan, so young and full of initiative; the cunning and calculating Aramis; the naive and good-natured Portos, with his superhuman strength; and the wise, disillusioned Atos, still full of inner strength amid his drinking. The main love story of the book is not that compelling. It somehow pales amid all the action. There are also a few chronological inconsistencies in the book that resulted from Dumas' neck-breaking pace of writing books. But these can be easily overlooked along with a somewhat unrealistic course of events. This still is a fabulous, entertaining story. The book's strongest appeal is to the readers in their teens.
Dumas specializes in a style of writing dubbed "historical fiction". Don't let that turn you off. It is not boring or anything like that in the least. Instead, it is a classic adventure story, featuring lots of action and plenty of romanticism. The whole 5 part series is worth reading. I would say that this installment and The Man In The Iron Mask are the best books in the series. This is one of the classics that should be read by everyone.
Because I spend a lot of time in my vehicle with my kids, I have begun seeking out these audio adaptations of classic novels put out by Monterey Soundworks...I currently had the pleasure of listening to The Three Musketeers and was very impressed. Usually an adaptation of this great story only covers the first adventure, which is only the "tip of the iceburg". These audio tapes are of excellent quality and do a fine job of bringing the complete story to life! Milady is one of the greatest villainess' in all literature and this adaptation has finally done her character justice! This was much better than any movie I've seen. I consider myself a "musketeer afficionado" as I have read the complete series...Athos, Porthos, Aramis, and D'Artagnan are very close friends of mine! If you love this story, you will also love "20 Years Later"! Read them all the way through "The Man in the Iron Mask"!If you are already a fan, get these audio tapes...you won't be disappointed! They are also a good vehicle to introduce someone who may be intimidated by the heft of the book to familiarize themselves with the story and develop an attachment to the characters, which is very easy to do with these characters!
