Seit kleinauf bin ich ein Fan von Vampir-Geschichten, gerade diese, da die Charaktere klare Archetypen sind, die man als solche überall erkennen kann.Jun habe ich mir vor einiger Zeit eine Zusammenfassung auf YouTube angesehen in der die Moderatorin dieses Buch und seine Schreibweise preist, was für mich einer der Hauptgründe war, dieses Buch zu lesen.Zwar sind einige Worte meinem Vokabular fremd, aber das ist ja mit Kindle kein Problem, es ist eine sehr klassische, ehrliche, und manchmal sogar schokierende Geschichte von der ich mir wünsche, Sie würde noch immer als Beispiel für puren Horror gelten.Von meiner Seite eine klare Kaufempfehlung, gerade zusammen mit dem Audio-Buch, da der Syncronisator sämtliche Dialekte dalegt.Dauert nur recht lang, dass Buch zu lesen, aber das ist kein negativer Punkt.
I started reading this book expecting just a scary vampyre story (, but "Dracula" is more than that.It is scary indeed, but it is also about travelling, love, friendship, trust, believe, adventure.The complete story consists of diary entries, letters and some newspaper articles.The journal text and letters are written by the different protagonists, so the reader gets to know thoughts and feelings of all the main characters concerned.Unfortunately due to the number of characters and the mixture of their entries and letters the reader does not really has a chance to build a deeper relationship with one of them. You feel sympathy and suffer with the protagonists, but only from a distance.On the otherhand this mixture avoids to get bored and you have to be attentive while reading to make sure you know who is telling what and to get the complete picture.It feels more like a documentary.Nevertheless, it is a great story and worth to be read.I really enjoyed reading this book.
Leider kann ich mich einigen meiner Vorrednern in der Beurteilung dieser Ausgabe von Bram Stokers »Dracula« in keiner Weise anschließen. Der Roman ist erheblich gekürzt, obwohl auf den einleitenden Seiten des Ullstein-Verlags das Gegenteil behauptet wird.Für mich eine eindeutige Irreführung des zahlenden Lesers!Ferner ging die atmosphärische Dichte und erzählerische Ausdrucksstärke des Originals durch die Überarbeitung von Helge Martini vollständig verloren, so dass vom Kauf dieser Dracula-Ausgabe dringend abzuraten ist.Wer nach einer weniger problematischen Ausgabe von Bram Stokers Meisterwerk Ausschau hält, sei an dieser Stelle auf die Übersetzungen von Martin Engelmann (Aufbau Taschenbuch), und Karl Bruno Leder (Insel Verlag) verwiesen, wobei die Bearbeitung von Leder meines Erachtens die atmosphärisch dichtere, die von Engelmann jedoch genauer übersetzt ist.
Mir gefällt dieses Buch sehr gut. Dafür dass es 1897 geschrieben wurde ist die Sprache sehr einfach und verständlich. In dem Buch lernt der Leser nicht nur Graf Dracula kennen, sondern auch einen Anwalt, des Anwalts Frau, ihre beste Freundin, deren Mutter und Verlobten und noch viele andere Figuren wie einen behandelnden Arzt namens Van Helsing. Beim Lesen kann man sich sehr gut in die damalige Zeit versetzen und sich auch ein bisschen gruseln 😊
Dracula, ein absouluter englischer Klassiker, den ich nur jedem empfehlen kann der ins englisch Lesen einsteigen will, aber in dieser Rezension möchte ich über diese Fassung reden.Das Buch hat sehr viele Eigenschaften, die andere Dracula Bücher nicht besitzen, wie fast eine ganze Biographie vom Author beinhalten und sehr sehr viel Information über dieses Buch und die Geschichte von diesem. Sehr kompaktes Format und angenehm zu lesen.

The printing is good, but the print smudges easily, so one should avoid touching the letters. 4 stars.(About the content, I have to say that the novel isn't all that fascinating today as it might have been back then. The description of Johnathan Harker's travels to Transsylvania and his stay at Castle Dracula are gripping, but the book goes downhill from there. Most distracting of all is the choice to make Van Helsing speak a type of bad English that doesn't even really fit the kinds of mistakes a Dutchman would make, and he has a lot of dialogue. Still, I would recommend it to anyone interested in classic literature.)
Bram Stoker's "Dracula" is definitely the best novel that I have ever read so far - and I am actually not a fan of vampire stories at all. But as "Dracula" was written in late-Victorian England, it first and foremost captures the dark mood of Fin de siècle Britain and depicts a nation torn apart between the glorification of the Empire where the sun never sets and numerous socio-political problems at home. It is thus one of the best accounts of Britain at that time - and a page-turner as well. Written as a collage of diary entries, letters, newspaper articles and official documents, it presents itself as a very modern novel, written in a breath-taking style and offering a brilliant story. It is a novel that has much more to offer than a vampire story. With Dracula being merely a metaphor for all the fears circulating in Britain of the 1890s, it is a discourse on science, imperialism and feminism tackling the question which role women should play in society. This is, I suppose, Stocker's major topic and by presenting two contrary female figures -as there are Mina and Lucy-, he carefully investigates the possibilities -and even more so: the dangers and threats- of what was then known as the "New Woman". It is a novel that can be read over and over again and it is worth digging deeper into it! Buy it, read it, love it!
